A guid to your Yoga and Pilates journey

There are all different types of Yoga & Pilates, here is what’s offered at our studio

Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is a form of yoga with a focus on the structural alignment of the physical body through the practice of asanas (poses). It differs from other styles of yoga in three ways: precision, sequence, and use of props.  Iyengar Yoga classes are precise, with misalignments and errors actively explained and corrected.  Iyengar yoga emphasizes precision and alignment and prioritizes correct movement over quantity.

Iyengar Yoga pioneered the use of "props" such as cushions, benches, blocks, straps and sand bags, which function as aids allowing beginners to experience asanas more easily and fully. This use of props also allows the elderly, injured, tired or ill students to experience the benefits of a wider variety of asanas via fully "supported" methods requiring less muscular effort.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha tends to be a slower form of yoga with a greater emphasis on pose instruction (versus simply performing them), it's a great type of yoga for beginners.  Hatha yoga is also good for anyone who has a difficult time focusing; the asanas (poses) tend to be broken down, so your mind can't wander as much.

Hatha yoga is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is suitable for practitioners of all levels, it is a restful practice that holds yoga poses (asanas) for a longer duration using props like yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters. Restorative yoga is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga; the union of body and mind. Through the use of props for support, many of the postures are held in passive stretching almost effortlessly.

Spring Wall Pilates

A Spring Wall Pilates class is based on resistance training.  Spring Wall exercises are done on a mat or standing with the springs providing resistance to help strengthen, tone, and improve flexibility.

In a Spring Wall Pilates class, you can look forward to a structured yet dynamic workout emphasizing strength and flexibility, working all muscles of the body.  Classes often begin with a gentle warm-up followed by various core-focused exercises designed to build strength and stability. There is a focus on controlled movements and proper breathing techniques to enhance your overall body awareness.

Spring wall Pilates addresses all your movement, alignment, and postural needs and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a low impact workout that uses your body weight for resistance, focusing on core strength, flexibility, and overall body conditioning.  Mat Pilates is suitable for all ages and abilities.  Mat Pilates is a great choice for all levels of Pilates practitioners because the exercises not only build in difficulty, but every exercise can also be modified to decrease or increase the level of challenge. Practicing Mat Pilates helps build a strong, balanced body and increases flexibility.

Mat Pilates can be modified for any age body, fitness level, and can be modified for all capability levels.
